Daughter of John William Rowley and Elsie Rowley (nee Tucker) Joyce had 6 siblings Madge,Mable,John,Richard,Shirley & Sheila They grew up at Cross Bank Batley West yorkshire. Joyce went to Carlinghow princess Royal junior school. At 13 years old Joyce lost her beloved father, and the day after that she lost her grandfather,Both of whom she was very close to, Such a great shock to deal with at such a young age but Joyce and the other children got through it with the love of their mother. When Joyce was 21 she met Jack Thornton they fell in love and married, Jack worked at a collery like most of the men in those days, which helped him buy their home In Taylor Street Batley. They had 6 children Linda, Yvonne, Karen, Julie, Brenda & Sean. Unfortunatly their marrage hit the rocks and they divorced, Joyce took custody of all her children and did the best she knew how all on her own. In time she met Her second husband John T Lee and had 2 more children Candy & Clinton, in the 1980's this marriage ended in divorce too. Joyce was diagnosed as having COPD (Chronic obstructive Pulmanary Disease) and battled on regardless of the fact her breathing was getting worse, she tried and tried to stop smoking and eventually made it ... unfortunately the damage had been done. Joyce got to enjoy the love all her grandchildren had to give her, and even met some of her great grandchildren too. Sunday 28/09/2003 Today I lost my Mum, She was taken ill during the night and rushed to Staincliffe General Hospital at 5.30 am At 1.30pm Mum was transferred to Pinderfields At Wakefield with a ruptured Abdominal aortic aneurysms we all sat waiting for the news .....not daring to think the worst, at first the surgeon came into the room and said Mum had made it through the operation...as we waited to see her the time passed by and after 2 more hours the surgeon came back to tell us Mum had died, she had been rushed back into theater and didn't make it. Mum died at 21 minutes past 10. Part of me went with her....God please take care of her.
